Portrait of enthusiasts

By NemcoShow

And off we go! A brand new section on NemcoShow, hopefully for the enjoyment of everyone.

The idea is simple: to meet video game enthusiasts. But beware, when we say enthusiasts, we mean those with a capital “E”. You will easily understand this with this first video.

As every section needs a beginning and at NemcoShow we don’t do things halfway, we dragged our Pentax K-5 to a pure, a tough, a real one, a tattooed fan. We could even put that in the plural because we had the joy of meeting the whole family and I can tell you that with these people, you lose count (those who get the reference will understand; at NemcoShow we don’t give out too many clues like in next-gen games).

References to Atari are everywhere and Manpac, a true Atari fan, didn’t know where to look. But above all, beyond a simple passion, there is a whole conservation effort happening in Franck’s basement.

Neatly arranged on metal shelves, thousands of software titles rest safely. A copy on hard drives and voilà: a heritage saved (we were told even the youngest family member is involved).

All the machines are functional. There are Atari 8-bit prototypes shown only at fairs, unique goodies, vintage point-of-sale displays, and loads of arcade. Good old classic arcade cabinets, perfectly preserved, just waiting for a “quarter” to wake up. Franck maintains his machines himself, except when the call of good weather pulls him to the garden (private joke).

Enough talking; here are the images which we deliberately left in minimal lighting. You don’t film an Ali Baba’s cave with Kino-flo, Divalight or a Blonde. Just a barely lit girl posed on the K-5.
